WHAT'S
ON
|
 |
|
|
 |
| During your
visit why not design, build and launch your
own rocket? Sounds impossible? Thousands of
visitors have enjoyed this exciting activity
and made it one of our most popular attractions. |
|
HOW ARE THE ROCKETS MADE? |
|
| We
supply a plastic fizzy drinks bottle, a nose
cone, some tail fins and a few other 'top
secret' parts to each potential rocket scientist.
One of our staff will be on hand to offer
useful technical support. After following
a few simple instructions the rocket can be
constructed, decorated and is ready for flight. |
| The
finished rocket is taken outside to the launcher
where it is prepared for flight, fuelled with
water and compressed air. After a countdown,
the rocket is launched skyward and blasts
off with a dramatic whoosh! The rockets may
fly over 200 metres. |
| This
activity is an enjoyable and unique way to
introduce visitors to the scientific principles
of forces and motion. Water rockets demonstrate
Isaac Newton's Third Law of Motion, 'For every
action there is an equal and opposite reaction,'
just as a full-size rocket does. |
| Armagh
Planetarium would like to acknowledge our
gratitude to Coca
Cola Bottlers (Ulster) Ltd, Lambeg for
generously donating the plastic bottles used
in this activity. |
