EDUCATION - PRIMARY SCHOOLS' PROGRAMME
As part of your visit to the Planetarium we can show your party how a telescope is used to view objects in the sky. We have a variety of telescopes for you to use including a 16" diameter telescope which is so large that it is housed in its own custom-made dome.
WHAT CAN YOU SEE THROUGH THE TELESCOPE AT NIGHT?
When you look through a telescope, you are looking back in time. Using our largest telescope it's possible to see galaxies whose light has been travelling for over 50 million years. You can see nebulae where new stars are being born and the remains of stars which ended their lives in violent explosions. Telescope viewing is guaranteed to seize children's imaginations and can be used as a dramatic and exciting way to enhance the subject of 'Light' in the schools' curriculum.

WHAT CAN YOU SEE THROUGH THE TELESCOPE DURING THE DAY?
Even if you visit us during the day it may be possible to view some celestial objects. Depending on the time of year and the weather conditions we may be able to show you features on the surface of the Sun or the planet Venus.
